A Quick Fix for Chips and Cracks
No matter how small a chip or crack on one of your teeth might be, it probably has a much larger effect on the appearance of your smile. Beyond the obvious cosmetic issues, these small imperfections can also affect how your teeth come together, causing them to grind and wear down until they finally break. However, Dr. Sam DK Kim can fix these kinds of problems quickly and easily using a treatment called direct bonding.
How We Use Direct Bonding
Direct bonding is very similar to porcelain veneers, however there are some distinct differences, and Dr. Sam DK Kim is always happy to help you explore which treatment might be right for you. Direct bonding can be used to:
- Repair teeth with small chips and cracks
- Lessen the appearance of gaps
- Whiten teeth that don’t respond to other whitening methods
- Make slightly misaligned teeth appear straighter
How Does It Work?
When you come in for a direct bonding treatment, Dr. Kim will start by applying a putty-like composite resin material to your tooth that has been specially shaded to perfectly match the rest of your smile. He’ll mold and shape the resin so that it improves the appearance of your tooth and masks any imperfections. After using a special curing light to harden the material, you’re finished, and your new smile will be ready for the world!
How Long Does Direct Bonding Last?
While the treatment itself only takes about an hour, the results can last for many years with the proper maintenance. To keep your bonding looking great, simply brush and floss regularly, as well as come in for routine checkups with SDK Dental Care. Also, be sure to wear a mouthguard whenever you play sports, and try to avoid chewing on hard things such as ice or rock candies.
